Facts About Breast Cancer that Everyone Should Know
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are sharing a few facts about breast cancer that everyone should know. Share these with friends and loved ones to help spread awareness about breast cancer.
1. Breast Cancer Affects Both Men and Women
While breast cancer predominantly affects women, it can affect men as well. While men are not necessarily known for having breasts, they do have a small amount of breast tissue that can be susceptible to breast cancer- so it's essential for both men and women to be aware of the risk.
2. Screening Can Save Your Life
Early detection is key to a good outcome when it comes to breast cancer, which is why physicians recommend regular physical exams and screening tools like mammograms.
3. One in Eight
One in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime.
4. Not All Lumps are Cancerous
There is a misconception that finding a lump on your breast means that you definitely have breast cancer. However, this is simply not true. Only a small percentage of breast lumps are determined to be breast cancer. However, we do recommend speaking to your doctors if you do find a lump.
5. 3.8 Million Survivors
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, there are approximately 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States
